ROLE OVERVIEW 

 

Thiess is seeking a Senior Mining Estimator to support being awarded new work through the preparation and submission of mining estimates. The successful applicant will be involved in mining tenders across Thiess’ Americas operations. In this role you will provide accurate and innovative estimating services for existing and new customers that deliver the blueprint for operational and financial success. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Work directly with Business Development, Senior Proposal and Bid Managers to ensure the estimating strategy aligns with our clients’ requirements 

  • Work alongside Mine Planning Engineers to ensure the mine plan is optimized for the recommended installed capacity 

  • Work alongside Asset Estimators to value and optimize fleet selection requirements and cost inputs 

  • Analyze actual fixed and variable costs for use in tendering pricing 

  • Analyze and apply market benchmarks to guide tender pricing 

  • Analyze site production performance to determine parameters for use within budgets and tenders 

  • Develop accurate tenders that are practically oriented with due consideration to the scope of works 

 

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND JOB REQUIREMENTS 

  • Previous experience working in and estimating for open cut operations 

  • Proficiency in the application of computer-based estimating systems 

  • Strong commercial acumen with prior experience in mining services contracts or long-term project planning roles 

  • Understanding of mining principles, design concepts and operations 

  • Strong verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills 

  • Strong influencing skills 

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite 

  • Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations 

  • Listens and seeks confirmation of understanding

  • Ability to communicate professionally in both English and Spanish

JOB REQUIREMENTS 

  • Authorization to work lawfully in the USA without sponsorship from Thiess is required. 

 

EDUCATION  

  • Relevant 4-year University degree or qualifications in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Accounting, Surveying or equivalent 

  • Experience in lieu of education may be considered 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

  • This role will be based out of the North American Business Unit in Salt Lake City. 

  • This is a hybrid role with a blend of home and office working opportunitieshoweverduring a period of training and for other business needs there may be times when 100% office work is required. 

  • Travel domestically in the US and Canada and internationally to South America and Australia will be required at times.
